Description
1. Basic Physical Properties
Appearance: Colorless, transparent liquid with a slightly ozone-like odor.
Properties: Strong oxidizing agent, polar substance, miscible with water in any proportion.
Stability: Unstable; it decomposes violently upon exposure to light, heat, or metals and organic matter, producing oxygen and water, sometimes with exothermic reactions.
Concentration: Commonly found at 3% (medical disinfection) and 30%-50% (industrial bleaching, oxidation); high concentrations (>74%) can even be used as rocket propellants.
2. Main Application Areas
Medical and Health: A 3% concentration solution is used for cleaning and disinfecting skin wounds, purulent otitis externa, and oral infections, cleaning the inside of wounds through the generated bubbles.
Industrial Bleaching: Widely used in the bleaching of textiles (cotton fabrics) and pulp, featuring environmentally friendly and pollution-free characteristics.
Environmental Treatment: Used for wastewater treatment, removal of heavy metals, and purification of industrial waste gas.
Daily Chemical Industry: Used in the production of sodium percarbonate, peracetic acid, etc., and also for disinfection in food processing.
3. Safety and Precautions
High Risk: High-concentration hydrogen peroxide is extremely corrosive and irritating to skin and mucous membranes. If splashed into eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
Flammable Hazard: Concentrated hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizer and can ignite flammable substances.
Storage Requirements: Must be stored in a cool, ventilated, and dark place in an opaque container, and prevent prolonged storage.
