Caustic Soda Daily Review – July 15

Liquid caustic soda prices showed upward momentum, while caustic soda flakes saw a sharp decline; futures opened high but trended downward.

The domestic spot market for liquid caustic soda was firm today. Major alumina producers in Shandong raised their procurement prices for 32% ion-exchange membrane caustic soda, effective July 15; the market in North China (Shandong) strengthened, with price hikes in downstream procurement driving up some previously low-end quotes. Prices in East China remained stable with little fluctuation in supply and demand, as companies primarily fulfilled existing long-term contracts. In Inner Mongolia, prices stabilized after an initial drop following the restart of some previously idled units; prices in other regions remained largely steady. Regarding liquid chlorine, shipments slowed and inventories rose, leading to price cuts. Alumina prices remained weak; short-term prices are expected to undergo fluctuating adjustments.

The domestic market for caustic soda flakes was weak and declining today. Manufacturers in the Northwest region significantly lowered prices for new orders this week, and market trading remained sluggish; short-term prices are expected to trend weak but stable.
