Caustic Soda Daily Commentary – July 1
Liquid caustic soda and caustic soda flakes remain weak; futures prices continue to decline.
The domestic spot market for liquid caustic soda was weak today. Major alumina producers in Shandong lowered their purchase prices for 32% ion-exchange membrane caustic soda by 10 yuan/tonne, effective July 1. Alumina enterprises in Guangxi reduced their purchase prices for July 2026 delivery by 150 yuan, while prices for alumina enterprises in the Xiaoyi region of Shanxi remained stable. Prices in the North China/Shandong region trended downward due to reduced downstream purchase prices and insufficient follow-through on new orders. Regarding liquid chlorine, prices remained temporarily stable despite operational instability at some facilities. Alumina prices continued to rise; however, caustic soda prices are expected to remain weak in the short term. The domestic market for caustic soda flakes was also weak today; some manufacturers in Inner Mongolia slightly lowered prices for new orders. Although some production units are undergoing maintenance, the pace of inventory destocking remains slow, and actual transaction prices for most suppliers are below official quotes; prices are expected to undergo fluctuating adjustments in the short term.
